Observations about luck
Does luck exist? Is there such a thing as lucky people? Or do people create luck for themselves?
While exploring the answers to this question, I will cite several resources and also give my own opinions as well. I will discuss both sides of the argument: that luck doesn’t exist or that it does exist.
The first opinion is that luck does not exist. It simply depends on how you choose to look at it. A glass half full/half empty situation. Like when you studied a lot for an exam, and get 80%. You didn’t get a higher grade because 20% of the questions were from the very small, and only section you did not study for. You might begin to consider yourself unlucky because you lost so much of your marks on such a small section, all because you didn’t think it was important and didn’t study for it. However, you might also consider yourself luck because they didn’t ask more questions from that section. After all, it was your fault that you didn’t study for that section, and there might as well have been 40% of the marks depending on that section, and you might have gotten 60%. So luck doesn’t exist, your perception of luck depends on your perception of the world. Additionally, people who consider themselves lucky may actually create luck for themselves. People who have a positive perception on life will take on more things, create more opportunities for themselves and will statistically be more likely to meet good fortune. If you try a 100 things, they each have a 50% chance of turning out to be something good. So you have a hundred 50% chances. Think of it like this: if you flip a coin 100 times, and you want to get heads, you are more likely to get heads (ie. meet good fortune rather than bad) if you flip it a 100 times than 2, or 10, or 50, or even 99. In conclusion, luck does not exist; lucky people are those who consider the glass half full. If you’re interested, you can also read more from here.
The second opinion is that luck does exist. There is no scientific evidence to back this up. However, I would like to ask this question: Then why is it that sometimes, people win on gambling machines on the first time? How come people who buy a ticket for the first time win the lottery? How come people win the lottery two, three times? It is, of course, based on statistics. But perhaps those people are simply lucky, or perhaps they’re not necessarily lucky as individuals but there is such a thing as luck. However, it is once again based on how you look at it. Even in the case of winning a lottery, perhaps considered the most luck a person can earn, you might realize that winning the lottery makes criminals follow and rob you in the street (there are people who actually do this), you have to pay so much in taxes that you lose a huge portion of the money and all the trouble you have to go through doesn’t seem worth it anyways. Once again, glass half empty/half full. Though this article doesn’t support the idea that the spiritual kind of luck exists, it does basically argue that luck exists for those who believe in it.
Regardless of whether luck exists or not, it is clear that you can create luck. You can take on more opportunities, and you can view the glass as half full.
So good luck on your journey towards exploring luck and becoming lucky. 😀
